Critical scrutiny of vintage and contemporary testimonies; attention for the live use; in-depth field studies: the compilation of the Vocabolario del fiorentino contemporaneo (Vocabulary of the contemporary Florentine language) develops bringing progressively to the surface the linguistic reality in which the speaker moves. The lexicographic cards that we are preparing are thus modelled on the real competence shown by the witnesses of the Florentine linguistic usage that we have interviewed. This way the research, that proposes a key to access and read the lexical specificity that acknowledges the peculiar "borderline" linguistic context that is Florence, aims to define the features of an updated project of dialectal lexicography.
