IC5: intercommunicability among Romance languages

Project for the realization of contrastive grammars of French, Italian, Portoguese and Spanish; 1992.

This project was created in 1992, by Correspondent Academician Jørgen Schmitt Jensen and was coordinated for the Italian part by Professor Carlo Alberto Mastrelli.

The main idea of the IC4 project is to develop a series of contrasting grammars as a result of teamwork in four Romance languages: French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Since 1998 it has been “expanded’’ to include a fifth romance language, Rumanian; the project has therefore been named IC5.

The ideal reader of each of the four volumes planned, written respectively in French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, is a person who is already confident in one of these languages (as a mother tongue or a foreign language), and who wants to acquire a passive yet substantial skill in the other three or in one or two of them, by studying the most important similarities and differences between “his/her” mother-tongue and the other languages.
